Our impact that is felt, seen and experienced locally but also on a macro level. Bamboo is a huge carbon sink, purifies air and makes soils healthier.

Growing bamboo is a nature inclusive form of agriculture. No crop protection chemicals, efficient in water use, no clearcuts and fertilizer and a true carbondioxide and nitrate ‘washer’. A boost for climate, biodiversity, soil restoration.

Putting our expertise at work

Bamboo Carbon Removal is born from the ambition to support farmers and landowners who are the foundation of a green bamboo industry in Europe. Our experts in bamboo propagation and cultivation have already realized more than 25,000 hectares of bamboo fields worldwide since the 1980s and are now putting this knowledge to work for Europe.

Our vision and approach

Growing bamboo in Europe is necessary to feed the biobased industry. Bamboo is omnipresent in Europe in tens of thousands of applications. Bamboo fits in perfectly in the current vision of nature-inclusive agriculture and carbon farming.

The fast-growing grass is one of the fastest renewable commodities, provides a highly versatile material and offers European farmers a sustainable green business model.

Dr. Hans Friederich

Environmental expert | Advisor

Hans is an internationally-respected Ambassador of the World Bamboo Organisation, change-maker, and sustainability specialist. From 2014 to 2019 Hans was director of the Bamboo and Rattan Organisation (INBAR) and Observer to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Hans was active for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for 24 years, of which a good three years as European Director.

João Ludovico

Carbon engineer | ESG | impact

João is raised in the Alcoutim region in Portugal. He holds an MSC Plant Sciences and greenhouse horticulture and holds a minor in climate-smart argiculture for a sustainable food production. He studied at the University of Wageningen, the Netherlands. As Carbon Engineer he is responsible for carbon and field data and CO2-certificate applications for the bamboo farms throughout Europe. João also holds track of impact KPI’s and policies.

João: “ I am honoured to support farmers on implementing carbon farming. After planting I work closely together with the farmer for field measurements and follow-up. Bamboo credits are a tool to support the farmers in their transistion to sustainable farming and that is something we put a lot of energy in.“
